Yavatmal Municipal Corporation is a local self government which has come into being under the Bombay Provincial Municipal Act, 1949. It carries out all the obligatory functions and discretionary functions entrusted by the BPMC Act, 1949 with the following mission: To make Yavatmal a dynamic, vibrant, beautiful, self-reliant and sustainable city with all basic amenities, to provide a better quality of life Yavatmal Municipal Corporation perceives its role as the principal facilitator and provider of services as detailed below to provide a better quality of life:

Brief history of Yavatmal Municipality and references of its composition

• Yavatmal City Council was established on 30th Dec 1875.
• Revenue Collection started on 1st July 1902 to make the Body Financially Self Dependent.
• The Municipality of Yavatmal established on 2nd of October 1949 in the real sense.
• Yavatmal Municipal Corporation was established on 6th of October 1981.
• Yavatmal Municipal Corporation has area of round about 26.40 square Kms. and population of 4, 45,397 as per Census-2001.
• All the administrative activities of the Y.M.C. are conducted as per Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporation Act 1949.

Duties of Y.M.C. / Services provided by Y.M.C. to the Citizens

• Maintaining the City Area & Cleaning Roads & Streets.
• Collecting Stinking & Toxic substances, Garbage etc. and to dispose it appropriately.
